The Spine Center Palm Beach Gardens

Neck, Back & Spine

Welcome to the Center for Neck, Back & Spine

Many demands are placed on your spine. It supports your head, shoulders, and upper body. It gives you support to stand up straight, and gives you the flexibility to bend and twist. It is not surprising that you may develop back pain from everyday wear and tear, or overuse. If you experience back pain and there is no improvement after a couple of weeks, it's time to seek medical help. Our specialists provide comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of spinal conditions, from spine trauma to scoliosis. As part of our comprehensive care approach, our team of spine surgeons, physiatrists, pain specialists and non-operative back doctors can diagnose, treat and provide care tailored to your needs. There are a wide variety of non-surgical treatments that are usually successful in treating back and neck pain. Treatment options include physical therapy, medication, injections, or surgery if diagnosed by our board-certified physicians.

Anatomy

The neck joins the shoulders and chest to the head. The neck includes the spinal cord, which sends messages from the brain to the rest of the body. The spinal column is the body's main support structure. Its thirty-three bones, called vertebrae, are divided into five regions: cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccygeal.

Diagnostics

The diagnosis of neck and spine pain is made by the doctor with a physical examination and other medical imaging devices which may include X-rays, MRI scan, CT scan, EMG, etc. PBOI uses a variety of diagnostic tests to help identify the specific nature of your injury or condition. It is critical for patients to work with a spine specialist to identify the underlying conditions causing their back or neck pain, and then develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Conditions

Conditions pertaining to the neck and spine can be brought on by the normal wear and tear on the spine, an accident or injury, or from congenital deformity that can seriously interfere with spinal health. When you suffer a spinal injury, the consequences can range from mild pain and discomfort to debilitating pain and restricted movement. From back pain and cervical disc herniations to spondylolisthesis and sciatica, spine pain can be the result of a serious condition. Learn more about the anatomy of your spine to better understand where you might be suffering a potential neck or spine condition. This will help you discuss your condition with your spine doctor.

Care & Management

When left untreated, a neck or spine condition or injury can cause further damage, and you could be left dealing with chronic pain, weakness or numbness. Specialized treatment should be sought to ensure that a proper diagnosis is made. Depending on the severity and location of your spine condition, various treatment solutions are available - both non-surgical and surgical. Our spine doctors consider surgical treatment options only after nonsurgical methods have proven to be unsuccessful. If surgery is necessary for you to obtain the best results, our spine doctors will use the safest and latest surgical methods proven to restore function and mobility. While we will explore conservative treatment before pursuing a surgical treatment plan, our team of spine specialists are trained in the latest surgical procedures.
